Here's something that's been taking over my kitchen counter for a week...Tyler is the newest member of the Martorana Scientists.

I didn't post this the first time, but the experiment went something like this...Tyler soaked some eggs in vinegar for 24 hours (this takes the shell off the egg and just leaves the membrane), then he put one egg in water (hypotonic solution), and one in corn syrup (hypertonic solution). The egg in water absorbed the water through diffusion and became almost twice the size of a normal egg. The egg in corn syrup shriveled up as the water was removed into the more dense solution and a sad looking tiny egg remained (an egg with a disgusting hard yolk). It was amazing :-)

I don't get it...what in the world is that? Did Tyler get the shell off of the egg without breaking the membrane or something? That looks really weird...and cool. :-)

No the vinegar dissolves the hard shell in 24 hours, leaving the whites, yolk, and cell membrane.
