Everyday, I find that I have more and more questions about being a mom. You will probably laugh at me, but I thought this was going to be a little easier - I thought I was going to be a natural "really great" mom, but I'm turning into a complete idiot/worrier! I'm not talking about being surprised that breastfeeding is very tough at times, or that I'm really tired, or even that Maci cries sometimes and we can't figure out what's wrong with her - all that I expected. What I'm talking about are things like the following (keep in mind that these questions are just from TODAY):
1. are those socks too tight?
2. is it okay to let her "cry it out" for 10 minutes because i've done everything i know to do (and she's still fussy) at less than 2 weeks old?
3. am i spoiling her by holding her too much?
4. should i let her sleep like that with her arm under her head? what if her arm falls asleep and there is a lack of blood supply to her tiny fingers?
5. should i cut/file her nails yet? they are not THAT long, but she is scratching herself to shreds!
6. why did she just sneeze 4 times in a row? is she allergic to something?
7. is it okay that i'm still taking occasional pain medicine? is this going to do damage to her tiny liver?
8. how many poopy diapers are too many?

Oh, Lindsey, I'm sure that you are doing great! It is funny how a logical person from the start can turn into a worrier in a matter of hours (and I'm now certifiable over the growing concerns over the years! should i call the doctor for this cough, is she getting enough food, could he have a hearing problem, why isn't he talking...etc). Just know, that God is in control, and he'll take care of Maci according to his plan and purpose (so much easier said than done, sometimes, trust me!).
It's almost been two weeks and she's doing great; so, ya'll must be doing great, too!
I love this! You are hilarious! Especially since I have thought those exact things! Pretty much all of them. If you ever need to talk to someone - please feel free to give me a call - I am after all a seasoned veteran!
missing you dearly - can't wait for Maci & Brooks to meet!
Poopy diapers with every diaper change is normal with breastfeed babies (eventually she may go 2-3 days with out a poopy and thats normal too)!!
Usually they say you can cut their nails at 2 weeks old (use mittens for scratching) you may have to cut them a few times a week.
You can't spoil your baby yet - your just teaching her to trust by responding to her every need (but if your responding to her everyneed and she's still crying then your doing the best you can :)). Lots of babies have a time a day where they seem to be fussier.
I've never heard of a baby having compromised circulation from sleeping on their arm :).
Your a great mommy, and I'm not even a mommy so don't listen to anything I say...all I do is take tests about babies and what does that really mean anyway :)
I love you! I can't wait to visit.
oh I forgot...don't forget she lived under water (in your belly) for 10 months...sneezing and stuffiness is normal :).
Lindsey - LOVE the post! I very much relate to the sudden onset of various unforeseen worries ;)I remember after Jimmy was born I went in for a check up a month or so later. The doctor was truly horrified to hear that I was still occasionally taking pain meds. Bear in mind, I was/am extremely easily grossed out by medical things - blood/cuts/sores/whatever. Just looking at my c-section and staple scars made me think it must hurt and reminded me to take some meds. After the doctors visit I realized they probably thought I was becoming some sort of pain pill junkie. I quit taking the meds, and realized it actually didn't hurt anymore (duh. . ). Long and short of it, one week after all you've been through and still occasionally taking pain pills doesn't seem like something that would do ANY harm ;) You're doing fine!
Hooray! The worry means your normal! As they get older you only worry more, but about diffrent things. Like "what will I do when Chad kills the first boy that breaks her heart?, will we have to free to Mexico?"
What Kelli said is the best advice. God IS in control. :) I am sure that you have tons of offers, but seriously, feel free to call and ask any question. I'm sure i have asked some that are even more strange. :)
Sounds like everything is going great and right on track!
Jake was a sound sleeper but Matthew was not--both slept on their bellies--so during those middle of the night times and in the morning when it was so hard to wake up, I just repeated to myself, "sleep is for the weak."
Not really...but it gave me a laugh!
Love the pics! Love the new parent-ness!
